
Getting Started
To begin fundraising with NTAF, a patient must already be working with a transplant center.
A patient (and/or a friend, family member or volunteer) must call NTAF at 800-642-8399 to speak to an NTAF Patient Services Coordinator. After the initial call has been made, the NTAF Patient Services Coordinator will send the patient (or caller) a basic packet of information to help get started with fundraising.
Once a patient has read through the materials provided and decides to fundraise with NTAF, a patient (or designated person) can begin planning an individually-tailored fundraising campaign with their NTAF Patient Services Coordinator.
Funds raised come to NTAF where they are held in Regional Restricted Funds in honor of the patient, for the region where the patient lives, together with other funds raised in that region.
Once a completed application demonstrating financial need has been approved by NTAF, a patient may submit a request for assistance using a Fund Request Form along with appropriate proof of expense. The NTAF Board of Directors has final approval over the disbursement of funds, based upon patient financial need.
For NTAF patients, 96 cents of every dollar raised is used to pay or reimburse uninsured medical expenses. (Due to service fees by credit card companies, NTAF is obliged to retain an additional three cents on the dollar from credit card contributions.)
