Rosemarie Rossetti
NTAF Great Lakes Spinal Cord Injury Fund
Columbus, OH
On June 13, 1998, while riding her bicycle, Rosemarie Rossetti was crushed by a 7,000 pound tree and instantly paralyzed from the waist down. When she returned home from the hospital, she realized her two-story home was not spinal cord injury friendly. Fifty percent of her current home is inaccessible, but things are about to change!
Family and friends of Rosemarie Rossetti, Ph.D. are raising money to help build her new home and garden in Columbus, OH. The Universal Design Living Laboratory (www.udll.com) is serving as a national demonstration home and garden to showcase universal design and green building. This is a grassroots effort to build a home that others can visit, learn from, borrow a few good ideas, and come away with hope for their own future homes. Rossetti’s goal is to be a catalyst for change in the building and design industry so future homes will include universal design and green features.
Contributions to this project will be used for a wide variety of items: to pay for products, materials and labor for universal design features that will provide for her access, independence, comfort and safety, including: elevator, step-free entrances, roll-in shower, lower countertops and wall cabinets, wide level sidewalks, smooth level surfaces for the garage, patio, porch and driveway, level grading, accessible raised gardens, tabletop planters, and plants grown in containers.
To help with these uninsured, injury-related expenses, a fundraising campaign in Rosemarie’s honor has been established with the NTAF - The Leader in Fundraising Assistance and Support for Transplant and Catastrophic Injury (formerly National Transplant Assistance Fund). NTAF is a nonprofit that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 27 years. In 2000, they began serving those with injuries similar to Rosemarie’s. All donations are tax-deductible and are administered by NTAF for injury-related expenses only. To make a contribution to this campaign:
